How to Spot a Gucci Handbag Counterfeit

It is becoming harder and harder to distinguish authentic Gucci handbags from the fakes, partially due to the fact that there are fewer distinguishing factors of authenticity. Fake Gucci purses and handbags are many times so good that one needs an authentic bag for comparison. Keep reading below for some general characteristics for comparison, and also some specific tactics that Gucci counterfeiters will use.

Characteristics of Counterfeit Gucci Bags

• A sure sign is an incorrect logo or font on the bag. Things to look out for are incorrect font sizes and letter spacing (in relation to one another and the entire tag), misspellings, and capitalization errors.
• On monogrammed bags, look at the G’s. You're looking for both shape and clarity. Fakes can have fatter G’s that bleed out like old tattoos.
• Look at the colors on any potential purchase. Some fakes will have less vibrant, or even faded colors, particularly with the green and red webbing or lining.
• Look at the quality of materials. Gucci uses only the finest quality leather, fabric, and hardware in their products. Any bags with chipped, distressed, or inexpensive looking components are possibly fake.
• Look at the overall construction and stitching of the bag. Stitching should be tight, neat, and even.
• Many fake ads will have the word "authentic" somewhere, but nearly ALL authentic ads contain the word authentic. If "authentic" is missing, don't buy.
• "Gucci Made in Italy" must be embossed in gold on some part of the purse or strap. It could also say Gucci Parfums. 
• For Gucci wallets, the stripes MUST BE red and blue on a blue 'GG' wallet NOT red and green; and the type must be readable and straight, not run together or crooked.
• The bag handles on same fakes appear much thinner and longer than genuine Gucci bags.  
• Satchel bags come in brown and blue logo vinyl trimmed with matching leather. They will always have a twill racing stripe somewhere on the bag. Either down the middle and up the back, as ribbons on each end of the handle - red and green stripe on the brown Gucci Accessory Collection bags and red and blue stripe on the navy blue doctor bags in the G.A. Collection.
• New products from "wholesalers" are very commonly fakes.
• On newer Gucci's, if the tag is completely square, it is a fake. Gucci rounds the bottom two corners ever so slightly.

If it looks too good to be true, it is. Obviously, your best prices will come on used Gucci products directly from an individual seller.
